We made donuts this past weekend for the first time. We made them well because who doesn’t like donuts and also to see if we could actually have them turn out.. and they did! It’s time consuming but worth the effort, it was a bonding experience.
1/4 cup sugar
1 cup milk, warm
1 tablespoon active dry yeast
1 teaspoon salt
2 teaspoon vanilla extract
2½ to 3½ cups unbleached flour, divided, plus more for kneading
1 stick butter (4 ounces), cut into 1″ cubes
Mix the egg and sugar together. Add in the milk, yeast, salt and vanilla. Slowly add in the 2 cups of flour. Add in one cube of butter at a time. Stir in the rest of the flour, should be a little sticky but not too much. Knead the dough On a flour surface. Place dough into large bowl, spray pam into bowl first and lay damp cloth On top of bowl. Let it rise for 1 hour. After the 1 hour, roll out onto floured surface and cut into donut shapes, we used a lid to make the shapes. Heat up vegetable or canola oil in a pan, about 1 inch. Fry donuts until brown On each side. Let them color 1 minute then dip in any glaze you prefer. We made chocolate, maple glaze and cinnamon sugar.
Mix together cinnamon and sugar.
1/4 cup chocolate chips
1 tablespoon butter
1 tablespoon corn syrup
Met in microwave for 20 seconds at a time until smooth
1/4 cup powdered sugar
1 tbs hot water
